News SACC NEC on Meeting with President Zuma

A delegation from the SACC’s National Executive Committee yesterday (22 June) met with President Jacob Zuma in Pretoria.

The SACC Vice President, Rev Joy Kronenberg described the aim of the meeting “to deliberate on relations between the SACC, faith communities and the Presidency”. She concluded that ”discussions were frank and helpful in exploring how the SACC could partner with government in meeting common challenges”.

“We ordinarily pay courtesy visits to our newly elected President and our earlier attempts to pay such a visit to President Zuma only came to realization today”, Eddie Makue, the SACC General Secretary, indicated.

Makue continued that “the matters we were able to raise with President Zuma were poverty, national unity and regeneration of moral values. President Zuma expressed appreciation for the issues of concern and we managed to explore ways in which we can join hands in dealing with these and other challenges confronting our country”.

The SACC also expressed its position related to the National Interfaith Leadership Council (NILC), while it reiterated its commitment to collaborate with government insofar as such cooperation will not compromise the independence of the SACC and its members.

The leader of the SACC delegation, Bishop Jo Seoka announced that “this meeting put to rest speculations about the SACC’s relations with the President and with government. We appreciate the progress made and can now concentrate on serving our people better”.

Euphoria about the Soccer World Cup and the afternoon’s match of Bafana Bafana were part of the lighter moments of a meaningful meeting.
