News SACC MOURNS THE PASSING OF RICHARD KHANYI

Mr. Richard Khanyi, a longstanding member of the SACC staff, passed away on Monday, 28 November 2005.

Richard Bhusheni Khanyi was born in Nqutu, KwaZulu-Natal, on 14 July 1953. He was initially employed as a member of the Khotso House support staff in October 1990, but was transferred in May 1991 to the SACC, where he worked as a Driver.

Richard served as the driver for four successive General Secretaries of the Council. For many of the Council's visitors, he was the first point of contact as he greeted them on their arrival at Johannesburg Airport. Richard was a humble and gentle man with a sly sense of humour who always treated everyone with respect. He performed his duties faithfully and diligently, often beyond the call of duty.

Richard is survived by his wife, Malisebo Elizabeth Mofokeng; two sons - Sanang Paulos (28) and Mohelepi Johanes (16); three daughters - Makgauta Annah (23), Matsidiso Precious (14) and Mmalesotho Sarah (11); and two granddaughters.

Richard will be sorely missed by his friends and colleagues at the SACC and by all whose lives he has touched. We thank God for his service to the Ecumenical Movement.

May his soul rest in peace.
