News SACC SALUTES THE ANGLICAN CHURCH FOR THE NEW ARCHBISHOP

The South African Council of Churches is excited by the news of the election of Bishop Thabo Makgoba as the Archbishop Elect of Cape Town. SACC salutes the Anglican Church in Southern Africa for the choice of its future leader and heartily congratulates Bishop Thabo on his election. “We are convinced”, said Professor Tinyiko Maluleke, the SACC President, “that this election is an excellent intervention by the Holy Spirit in the history and life of the Anglican Church in Southern Africa and the whole of the Anglican Communion”.

Bishop Thabo will be the youngest Archbishop in the history of the Anglican Church in Southern Africa. To this effect, Mr Eddie Makue, the General Secretary of SACC said, “This election bodes well for the Southern African ecumenical movement and South Africa’s young democracy and development". “We are faced with new challenges which demand new, alternative and creative ways of theological thinking and action that offers hope to all people. Therefore this election is an investment not only for the Anglican Church but for the ecumenical movement as well”, Makue continued to say. The SACC looks forward to an even closer working relationship and collaboration with the Anglican Church in the service of our Lord Jesus Christ.
