The Rev. James Buys, a dedicated proponent of ecumenism, a former member of the SACC Executive and, for many years,
the Moderator of the Uniting Reformed Church, died suddenly on 1 March. Church leaders across the country and around the world
joined in mourning the loss of this respected theologian and tireless proponent of justice. The Buys family has written to the Council
to express their appreciation for the love and support that they have received in the past month, and they have asked that the SACC
share this message through its web site.
Thank you, from James Buys’ family
This has been a trying time for the family, but the love and support we received from each one of James’ colleagues, friends and spiritual brothers and sisters were amazing. Words cannot describe our heartfelt gratitude.
Thank you for being there for us, keeping us in your prayers and supporting us. May the God of heaven bless you and remind you of His great love for mankind and the importance of being in fellowship with Him.
When James was just 11 years of age, doctors confirmed that, due to a back injury, he would never grow and live life to the fullest. They said that he’d be in a dwarf state for the rest of his life.
James spent 3 years and 9 months in hospital. He focussed to complete each school year from the hospital bed… successfully!
Through much prayer and trusting in the power of God, James was healed and he grew not only in stature but also in his faith and love for God.
May James’ life always be a testimony and an encouraging sign of what God can do.
Let us be reminded by Rom 8: “What can separate us from the love of God?”
Even though the road lies steep ahead of you, know that God will shed His light in times of darkness and will never leave you nor forsake you. He will be with you until the end of time.
Love and Best wishes,
Angela and children, Ma – Buys, Siblings and family
